Tree Child
By Joseph Coelho

Directed by Philip Osment
designed by Sue Pyecroft

A new show for children touring into libraries this summer.

Every library has a deep dark corner where a child can become lost in another world. A corner where trees can become monsters, where squirrels can become wicked and where tales of family can become rooted.

Tree Child is a story of Growing up, of learning to live with life’s knots and gnarls and seeking out its blossoms.
A mythical adventure in storytelling and puppetry.

Tree Child has been commissioned by The Spark to tour into libraries this summer as part of the Summer Reading Challenge.

A vision of the future demonstrated through the tour of a theatrical space where you the audience get to take part in a world of perfection.

Commissioned by Soho Theatre as part of their HUB UTOPIA event-

First Performance – Soho Theatre – 24th June 2012

The Last Pearly

The Last pearly tells the story of John, a teenager who is

the last in a long line of pearly kings and queens. Though

devoted to his grandfather Billy who has brought him up,

John is embarrassed of his pearly history and family

tradition. He would rather spend his time with his friends

than on the streets of London dressed in a suit covered in

pearl buttons. When John’s beloved grandfather dies, he

reconsiders the importance of his family’s heritage and

sets about a task that introduces him to an unknown

London of the past and present.

“How Long Is a Piece of String”

Co-Written by Joseph Coelho and Tim Webb
Directed by Tim Webb
Designed by Amanda Webb

“This is theatre which cradles its young audience and helps them to dream.”

-Caroline McGinn, The Times *****

“What a journey, full of activity and magical moments! Let’s not spoil the ending, but, like the mythic piece of string, some things – like loving kindness, creativity and imagining, having fun and learning about life – are immeasureable. Oily Cart, however, continue to be an inspiring yardstick in the realm of children’s theatre-making.”

-Mary Brennan, The Herald

After enjoying a sell-out run at The Unicorn Theatre in 2008-2009 the show went on a national tour.

A multi-sensory piece developed with children’s theatre company Oily Cart.
